Ingredient Profile & Common Uses
Ajuga decumbens Thunb. is an accepted Ajuga species native to China and other parts of temperate East Asia. The commercial ingredient is an extracted and standardized powder rather than simple milled herb. Published phytochemical research on the species documents a diverse phytoecdysteroid profile, including cyasterone, ajugalactone, Ajugasterone C, and related ecdysteroid structures.
The standardized grades provide progressively higher marker concentrations for different formulation requirements. Lower-assay material contributes more botanical extract solids, while concentrated grades reduce the amount of powder needed in each formula. This difference is especially relevant when capsule capacity, tablet weight, serving size, or multi-ingredient formula space is limited.
The extract has a characteristic botanical color and taste and is water-dispersible rather than fully water-soluble. It is therefore better suited to dry dosage systems and suspended powder applications than to formulas requiring a clear solution. Concentrated grades reduce bulk ingredient loading but require greater attention to low-level weighing and blend uniformity.
