Ingredient Profile & Common Uses
Scutellaria baicalensis root contains a characteristic flavonoid profile including baicalin, baicalein, wogonin, wogonoside, and related flavones. A standardized extract differs commercially from ordinary skullcap root powder because extraction and concentration produce a controlled marker level rather than simply supplying milled botanical material. Its commercial identity is therefore defined by the root source, standardized-extract format, and compound-specific assay.
The 30–85% specification range provides different concentration levels within the same botanical-extract category. Lower-assay material retains a larger proportion of accompanying extract solids, while concentrated grades provide more marker compound per unit weight. This allows formulators to select an appropriate grade according to target inclusion level, available formulation space, and the required standardized botanical input.
Baikal skullcap extract is used in dietary supplements, botanical premixes, powdered formulations, and selected cosmetic systems. Concentrated material has a naturally yellow to yellow-brown appearance and a distinctly bitter botanical taste. It should be treated as a dispersible ingredient rather than assumed to produce a transparent aqueous solution, making wetting, sedimentation, color, and flavor relevant during product development.
