Ingredient Profile & Common Uses
Sour jujube seed extract is derived from the seed rather than the jujube fruit, giving it a different phytochemical and commercial identity from conventional jujube fruit powders and fruit extracts. Its characteristic constituents include dammarane-type triterpenoid saponins together with flavone C-glycosides such as spinosin and 6”’-feruloylspinosin.
Commercial grades differ primarily in assay strength and analyte definition. Lower-assay material contains a larger proportion of the broader botanical extract matrix, while concentrated grades reduce the extract mass required to deliver a target saponin level. Compound-specific jujuboside specifications provide another purchasing option when a formulation or quality program requires defined chromatographic markers.
The brown to brown-yellow powder is used mainly in botanical dietary supplements, nighttime-positioned formulas and multi-herbal systems. It disperses in water but does not normally form a clear solution, so formulators should consider sedimentation, color contribution, powder flow and blend uniformity during product development.
