Ingredient Profile & Common Uses
Ascophyllum nodosum is a brown seaweed whose marine body is technically described as a thallus rather than a leaf, stem, or root. Seaweed Extract Powder undergoes extraction, filtration, concentration, and drying, distinguishing it from whole kelp or seaweed powder, which retains more of the original insoluble biomass. It should also be distinguished from purified or standardized fucoidan ingredients designed around a defined sulfated-polysaccharide assay.
Commercial grades can be specified through extract ratio or through analytical markers. Essencefield supports 4:1, 5:1, and 10:1 ratio directions, with 10:1 providing a recognizable concentrated grade for procurement and SEO positioning. Ratio values describe the relationship between starting seaweed material and finished extract; they do not independently define fucoidan, laminarin, iodine, or total-polysaccharide concentration. Marker-led grades therefore require a separate analytical specification.
The powder is used in supplement, functional powder, beverage, and selected personal-care formulation projects where a concentrated brown-seaweed ingredient is preferred over whole seaweed. Its olive-brown color and characteristic marine-mineral sensory profile can influence finished products. It is water-dispersible rather than necessarily clear-soluble, and its polysaccharide and mineral fractions can affect haze, sedimentation, viscosity, and interaction with other formula components.
