Ingredient Profile & Common Uses
Poria extract is made from the dried fungal sclerotium rather than from a fruiting-body mushroom or simple milled raw powder. Wolfiporia cocos belongs to the Fomitopsidaceae family and contains a polysaccharide-rich matrix together with characteristic triterpenoid constituents. Extraction produces a more concentrated commercial ingredient while retaining the chemical profile associated with the sclerotial raw material.
The standard grade is defined by a 10:1 extract ratio and carrier-free format. The ratio describes the relationship between the starting material and finished extract; it is not equivalent to a polysaccharide percentage or another active-marker assay. Standardized polysaccharide extracts therefore represent a separate purchasing category and should be evaluated by their named analyte and analytical method.
The concentrated powder is primarily used in dietary supplements, functional mushroom combinations, and powdered nutrition systems. Its fine particle format supports dry blending, encapsulation, and premixing. In aqueous applications, formulators should expect dispersion rather than guaranteed clarity because Poria contains constituent fractions with different water behavior.
