Ingredient Profile & Common Uses
Sinomenium acutum stem provides the botanical raw material used for Qing Feng Teng and Caulis Sinomenii extracts. Its characteristic chemistry is built around a diverse alkaloid fraction containing sinomenine together with magnoflorine, coclaurine, acutumine, higenamine, and related constituents. This multi-component profile distinguishes the extract from whole stem powder and highly purified sinomenine ingredients.
The 10:1 grade is the primary commercial specification for general botanical ingredient sourcing. Alternative 4:1, 5:1, and 20:1 ratios provide different raw-material-to-extract relationships for formulation and purchasing requirements. Extract ratio should not be interpreted as a sinomenine percentage; projects requiring quantitative marker control can define a separate sinomenine target and analytical method.
The finished powder is light brown to brown with a characteristic botanical odor, pronounced bitterness, and slight astringency. Its sensory profile favors concentrated dry formulations where flavor exposure is limited. For liquid or semi-solid systems, formulators should account for dispersion, visible color contribution, sedimentation, and taste masking during prototype development.
