Ingredient Profile & Common Uses
The source material is the dried mature fruit of Bassia scoparia, a member of the Amaranthaceae family. Kochia scoparia remains the established commercial synonym and is widely used in traditional ingredient documentation. Extraction distinguishes the finished material from ordinary fruit powder by concentrating extractable constituents and reducing part of the insoluble plant matrix.
Ratio grades provide different concentration levels for procurement and formulation. The 10:1 format is the primary commercial grade, while 20:1 offers a more concentrated option. These ratios describe the relationship between starting material and finished extract rather than the percentage of a specific saponin, flavonoid, or other constituent.
The ingredient is used in supplement formulations, traditional herbal preparations, dry multi-ingredient blends, and selected personal-care systems. Formulators should consider its natural color and sensory contribution, powder distribution, wetting behavior, and compatibility with other ingredients. These physical characteristics can influence processing and finished-product performance even when the same extract ratio is used.
