Ingredient Profile & Common Uses
Ellagic acid is a defined polyphenolic compound with CAS No. 476-66-4 and a molecular weight of 302.19 g/mol. Chemically, it is a polyphenolic dilactone associated with ellagitannin chemistry. Unlike pomegranate powder or a standardized botanical extract, the 98% material is positioned as a concentrated individual phytochemical in which compound purity is the primary commercial specification.
The 98% HPLC grade represents the main high-purity form used when buyers need controlled active loading. Lower-assay botanical materials may contain ellagic acid together with tannins, punicalagins, other polyphenols, carriers, and naturally occurring plant constituents. The purified grade therefore serves a different procurement and formulation purpose from lower-standardized extract formats.
Commercial use is concentrated in dietary supplement, functional ingredient, phytochemical blend, and selected cosmetic formulation projects. The compound is poorly soluble in water, while published data show greater solubility as pH increases. Formulators should therefore consider dispersion, dissolution, precipitation, and ingredient distribution rather than treating the powder as freely water soluble.
