Ingredient Profile & Common Uses
Platycladi Semen is derived from the dried ripe seed or seed kernel of Platycladus orientalis. Correct plant-part identification is important because the same species also supplies Platycladi Cacumen, the twig-and-leaf drug material. Seed extract therefore has a different raw-material identity and constituent profile from aerial-part extracts, whole botanical powder, and mechanically pressed seed oil.
Commercial grades are differentiated primarily by extract ratio. The standard ratio grade addresses mainstream sourcing requirements, while the higher-ratio option provides a more concentrated botanical-to-extract specification. Extract ratio defines processing concentration rather than the level of a single active compound, so it should not be interpreted as an assay, purity percentage, or marker concentration unless a separate quantified constituent is specified.
The extract is used in concentrated botanical supplements, traditional-herbal blends, and dry ingredient systems where an extract format is preferred to direct incorporation of the naturally oily seed kernel. Relevant formulation characteristics include powder distribution, dispersibility, sensory contribution, and compatibility within multi-ingredient systems. Aqueous behavior should be evaluated on the actual grade rather than inferred from the botanical source alone.
