Ingredient Profile & Common Uses
Taxifolin belongs to the flavanonol, or dihydroflavonol, subclass of flavonoids and has the molecular formula C15H12O7. It occurs naturally in several botanical materials, including conifer species, but commercial 98% material is handled primarily as an isolated phytochemical. Its chemical identity is therefore more precisely defined than that of a taxifolin-rich plant extract containing multiple phenolic constituents.
The primary commercial grade is Taxifolin 98%. This specification refers to the concentration of taxifolin itself; it is neither a 98:1 extract ratio nor a total-flavonoid value. Chromatographic methods such as HPLC are commonly used to evaluate the target compound and related-component profile, making analytical identity an important consideration when comparing commercial materials.
The ingredient is used in concentrated supplement, nutrition, functional food, and selected personal-care formulations. Its relatively low aqueous solubility influences formulation strategy, particularly in systems requiring complete dissolution. Dry applications are generally easier to manage through controlled premixing, while liquid development requires closer evaluation of dispersion and physical stability.
