Ingredient Profile & Common Uses
Honokiol occurs naturally in Magnolia officinalis and is commercially associated with magnolia bark as the botanical raw-material source. Its biphenyl structure contains phenolic hydroxyl and allyl groups that distinguish it chemically from general Magnolia extract matrices. Honokiol 98% therefore represents a purified phytochemical ingredient rather than whole bark powder, a ratio extract, or a broad standardized extract.
The 98% specification is intended for buyers who require honokiol itself to be the quantitatively defined ingredient. HPLC provides the analytical basis for measuring the individual compound and evaluating purity within a concentrated material. This grade architecture supports more precise formulation, analytical comparison, and supplier qualification than products defined only by total Magnolia phenols or a general extract ratio.
The concentrated compound is used in specialty botanical supplements, dry premixes, lipid-compatible delivery systems, and selected cosmetic formulations. Its lipophilic character and poor aqueous solubility influence ingredient handling and delivery-system selection. Accurate weighing, controlled preblending, and suitable dispersion strategies become particularly important when a small amount of concentrated material must be distributed uniformly through a finished formulation.
